On Monday, Wednesday and Friday the competition pool opens from 6:30am to 8:00am. Only the competition pool is open during this slot; the teaching and wading pools open at 8:00am.

Pools and the 2026 refresh
ActiveSG lists a competition pool, a teaching pool and a wading pool. ActiveSG’s June 2026 article on the rejuvenated Hougang Sport Centre describes a newly sheltered training pool and a refreshed wading pool that now includes a water-play feature for younger children.
A sheltered pool doesn’t mean the pool stays open in every condition. Lightning, poor air quality and maintenance can still close it; in October 2026, for example, ActiveSG paused facilities during haze and resumed operations on 17 October.

Inclusive Sport (Sport Singapore) lists these features for Hougang Swimming Complex:
- The swimming complex is on ground level.
- A pool wheelchair is available; ask the Guest Officer for help.
- Accessible toilets and showers are inside the swimming complex, near the wading pool.
- There is a separate accessible drop-off point for the swimming complex, apart from the sports hall and gym.
