Swim, Play, and Thrive
This page explains how kids' swimming lessons work at Singapore's public swimming complexes: what children learn, how lessons are organised, and how to choose a pool that suits your family.
Most kids' lessons take place at ActiveSG public swimming complexes, usually in the teaching or shallow pool. When choosing a venue, check how far it is from home or school, its weekly closure day, and whether it has a shallow pool suitable for beginners. Our town guides list these details for each complex. Lessons are usually planned around the SwimSafer stages, so you can track your child's progress against a national standard.

Enhance Your Kids' Water Safety and Skills
For most children, the first goals are water confidence, floating, breathing control and moving safely to the side of the pool. Strokes such as freestyle and breaststroke come after that.
Group lessons suit children who are already comfortable in the water and enjoy learning alongside others. Private lessons suit children who are nervous, need extra attention, or want to move through the SwimSafer stages faster. Lesson fees are listed below; pool entry fees are paid separately at the swimming complex.
Kids' Swim Class Fees and Pricing
Current lesson fees for kids are shown in the table below.
Fees depend on whether lessons are private or in a group, and on the number of lessons in a package. If you are comparing options, ask what is included, such as the number of children per coach and how missed lessons are handled.
Kids (1 to 1) for 5-11 years old
Classes developing awareness of the aquatic environment. Without the parent's presence in the water.
Kids (1 to 2) for 5-11 years old
Classes developing awareness of the aquatic environment. Without the parent's presence in the water.
Kids (1 to 3) for 5-11 years old
Classes developing awareness of the aquatic environment. Without the parent's presence in the water.
Certified Swimming Coach
Children's lessons are taught by coaches who hold recognised swimming-teacher certifications, listed below.
In private lessons, the coach works with one child and adjusts each lesson to that child's pace, which often helps nervous swimmers settle faster. To get started, tell us your child's age, current ability and the swimming complex nearest to you, and we will suggest suitable lesson options.

Benefits of Swimming Lessons Near Me
Singapore is surrounded by water and most housing estates have a public pool nearby, so learning to swim is a practical safety skill for children here. Choosing a swimming complex close to home makes it easier to attend lessons every week, which matters more for progress than the length of any single lesson.
Safety and Survival Skills: Children’s Swimming Lessons
Children learn to enter and exit the water safely, float, tread water and get back to the side of the pool. The SwimSafer stages also cover basic water-safety knowledge, such as recognising when someone is in difficulty and calling for help.
Physical Health and Stamina: Childs Swimming Lessons
Swimming exercises the whole body with little impact on joints. Regular lessons help children build stamina and coordination, especially once they can swim continuous lengths.
Mental Wellness and Relaxation: Kids Swimming Lesson
For many children, the biggest change is confidence. A child who was afraid to put their face in the water learns, step by step, that they can control their breathing and stay calm.
Social Engagement and Community: Children Swimming Lessons
Group lessons give children the chance to learn alongside others of a similar level. Once they can swim, family visits to the local swimming complex become an easy weekend activity.
Unique Qualities of Our Swimming Lessons
What matters most in a kids’ swimming lesson is a qualified coach, a small enough group for the child to be watched closely, and a clear plan for what the child will learn next.
Tailored Coaching Approach:
Coaches start from what the child can already do. A child who is afraid of water begins with confidence and breathing; a child who can already float moves on to kicking and strokes.
State-of-the-Art Aquatic Facilities
Public swimming complexes in Singapore are mostly outdoor pools, and many have a separate shallow teaching or children’s pool. Facilities differ from complex to complex, so check our town guide for the pool you plan to use. Lessons may be paused during lightning alerts, when the pool clears swimmers from the water.
Comprehensive and Flexible Curriculum: Swimming Lessons for Kids
Lessons follow the SwimSafer stages, from basic water skills through to stroke development and survival skills. Children move on when they are ready, not on a fixed schedule.
Supportive and Engaging Community
Parents are kept informed about what their child is working on and which SwimSafer stage they are preparing for, so you know what to practise during family swims.
See our SwimSafer guide for what each stage tests.
