Singapore SwimSafer Stage 2: Skills and Safety

Building on the Basics with SwimSafer Stage 2

Stage 2 is the second stage of SwimSafer 2.0. It is for learners who have passed Stage 1 or who can already float and swim short distances, and it builds longer swimming distances and basic survival skills.

Compared with Stage 1, Stage 2 asks for longer continuous swims (25m on the front and 15m on the back), treading or sculling for 30 seconds, recovering an object from chest-deep water, and a survival sequence in clothes that includes jumping into water at least 1.4m deep with a PFD. The full test sequence is listed further down this page.

What is important?

  • Water Safety Awareness
  • Comfort in Water
  • Floating and Buoyancy
  • Breath Control and Blowing Bubbles
  • Kicking and Arm Movements
  • Water Play and Games

SwimSafer Singapore's Stage 2

Stage 2 includes deep-water skills, so preparation needs a pool with water at least 1.4m deep as well as shallower water for practice.

Most public swimming complexes have a deeper competition or training pool alongside a shallower teaching pool, but depths differ between venues. Check our town guides for the pool you plan to use, or ask us which nearby complex suits Stage 2 preparation.

Navigating the Waters with Confidence

Learners most often need extra practice with the 25m continuous swim, the 30-second tread or scull, and swimming 15m in clothes using a survival stroke.

To arrange preparation lessons, tell us the learner's age, the highest SwimSafer stage passed and which swimming complex is most convenient. Lesson fees are listed on our fees page; pool entry is paid separately at the venue.

Assessment and e-certificate

Sport Singapore states that successful completion of the relevant online theory quiz and practical assessment is required for an e-certificate. Assessment readiness must be validated by an accredited SwimSafer instructor; participants should not be registered before they can safely perform the required competencies.

How to register

Primary-school participants can ask their school about its SwimSafer arrangements. Families may also register privately through a SportSG-accredited SwimSafer instructor. Registration route, lesson schedule, assessment venue and fees can differ by provider.

Check the official requirements
